Summer break continued

Once back at the house, sat and watched the garden take shape while being cared for by the bros, the unstoppable Valerie and the incredible Heather.

Festivals and fears

Last Saturday was the first outing of the Dessinators at a UK comic fair since CECAF last November. Sean and I did make it to Angouleme, but we seem to have spent the last six months in hibernation. Takeover 2015, the Alternative Press and London Radical Bookfair cross-over in Bermondsey, was a welcome distraction from the disappointment of the election and ended up being a good day despite the delayed-delivery-of-tables fiasco. So great to catch up with my table mates and see some familiar faces again.
I managed to produce a new mini comic for the event, as well as collecting my copy of A little Bit of Undigested Potato bad dream anthology from the lovely Keara Stewart. As well as organising a second event, Sean has found time to put together another excellent new tome – check out Tracks in Orbital or Gosh. A date for your diary is June 6th : make your way to Crouch End for CECAF 2 and all kinds of comic goodness! Expect to see the likes of Sally Anne Hickman, Danny Noble, Julia Scheele, Breakdown Press, Paul Rainey, Andy Oliver and many many more...

Sea you there

This Saturday I will be appearing on a panel discussing Bumps, Births & early Motherhood in comics and graphic novels at the University of Brighton along with Kate Evans and Henny Beaumont. A day at the seaside and some lively chat, what's not to like? Check out the details on their website.
Just been out to the countryside getting a blast of spring loveliness and old clobber with Heather. Took in some culture on the way: fabulous tapestry map at The Bodleian in Oxford and Enid Marx and Martin Parr at Compton Verney near Kineton. Splendid.

After show

Took my Lexi exhibition down this weekend. How time flies!
Somehow got sidetracked and didn't get round to blogging these past weeks, and now it's over. The work looked great in the venue, such a lovely space, and I got very positive feedback. Such a good turn out at the launch – that night was really special. And thank you to all who made it to Kensal Rise at any time! It was a really fun experience. Might do it again if asked.

Exhibition

I will be making a show of myself as of next Wednesday 18 February at the fabulous Lexi Cinema in Kensal Rise, with prints, artwork and even paintings. More on facebook.

And the second

Two more packages have arrived containing the next issue of Panic Attacks and a selection of Most Natural-themed greeting cards! Woop! Off to see Viv Albertine speak at St Martins this evening with a contingent of original punkettes, along with some of the new generation. Keep 18 February free, London folk, and watch this space - as I will soon be announcing an event.

Look what just arrived at my door. I'm now rearing to go with my new collection of strips in French and in full COLOUR!
And here the Cassavetti siblings visiting the ancestors over Christmas...

And again

I have just sent ANOTHER comic off to the printers. I am on FIRE! Part three of Panic Attacks, 36 pages of comicky awesomeness, will be ready in time for Angouleme. Well done me.

Going french

After so many trips to Angouleme I have finally got round to translating a selection of material for the french. ABOUT BLOODY TIME.

Je suis Charlie enragé

I did not go down to Trafalgar Square last night to join in the vigil. I was broken by despair at the atrocity perpetrated in Paris. But today I find there are people actually starting to find justifications for what happened. "Oooh they shouldn't have drawn those pictures...it's a bit racist... they gave Mohamed a big nose WHAT THE FUCK?"
Now I am ANGRY. NOTHING justifies this outrage. Charlie Hebdo has been fighting bigotry since before I was a teenager. It targets injustice, stupidity, corruption and hypocrisy indiscriminately, regardless of colour, nationality, faith, political leaning or social status. These men (and one woman) were executed in cold blood by fanatics. THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION.
As someone for whom drawing is as necessary as breathing, who has healed herself by laying down her anxieties and neuroses on paper, and tried to be truthful on the page, I cannot envisage how this event can in any shape or form be acceptable or even understandable. WE MUST NOT BE INTIMIDATED.
